Cecilia’s Painting

Cecilia’s picture planes are technically diverse. Her compositions well express the beauty of nature. Using painstaking brush gestures to define natural scenes, one is set to wonder what artistic direction she contemplates.

Cecilia alone knows the meaning of each carefully placed dot. Not fish or flower, these dots reveal Cecilia’s inner struggle to survive. It is , for her, the chosen method of artistic self-expression.

Cecilia solidifies her existence, her life, via this challenging art-form. In today’s “hi-tech”, “info-mad” society, public trends and aims are easily predicted; consequently, personal opinions are adversely influenced and original thought is stifled. Cecilia’s frustrated psyche lies behind a fury of repetitive brush strokes that try to define these thoughts.

From 1983-1986, while residing in Montreal, Cecilia concentrated mainly In ceramic art. There is a close connection of clay to paint, as a myriad of clay pieces take form in her sculpts; reminiscent of her stippled dots in oil paint. Dots, that are a characteristic form of women’s traditionally knitted and embroidered past……like the hand in motion knowing no end to task.

Cecilia’s painting is imbued with the spirit of traditional Korean art, as evidenced by the patient fortitude of each painted dot. This meld of diligence and forbear is the honest human act that creates great art.
